A chance to taste two different vintages of Talisker Distillers Edition, alongside the famed 18 year old.
The Talisker distillery is one of the most remote in the world, perched on the rugged western shores of the Isle of Skye, at the head of Loch Harport, in the small village community of Carbost. The distillery was originally founded back in 1830 – and not everyone in the local community was happy about it. The then parish minister felt the development of the distillery was ‘one of the greatest curses that could befall (Carbost) or any other place’. More than a hundred and fifty years later, and Talisker is universally regarded as a jewel in the heart of Skye. The distinctive Talisker style recommends itself to seafood such as smoked salmon, kipper fillets, grilled smoked mackerel and oysters.
1. Talisker Distillers Edition bottled 2007: 45.8% | 30ml: Like all Classic Malt Distillers Editions, this Talisker has been double-matured in a second cask after the original maturation period (in this case in Amoroso Sherry casks). The experience is older, sweeter and richer than the regular bottlings. This Edition has a very special bitter-sweet harmony where the peat softens on the palate to a rich, sweet, juicy fruit finish.
2. Talisker Distillers Edition bottled 2016: 45.8% | 30ml: This, like the whisky before, is matured for its initial period (in this case 10 years) in ex-Bourbon casks, and then finished for a second period (in this case 9 months) in Amoroso sherry casks.
3. Talisker 18 year old: 45.8% | 30ml: The classic and highly revered 18 year old expression from this lonesome Skye distillery.
