3 brilliant whiskies from around Scotland highlighting 3 amazing wine casks from around Spain and Portugal!
1. The Dalmore Port Wood Reserve: 46.5% The fruit of Dalmore’s experiments with casks from around the world, this port wood reserve marries Dalmore’s weighty whisky with thick port-cask fruit and spice. Matured first in American white oak bourbon casks, it is then finished in port pipes from W&J Graham before being bottled at a punch 46.5%. Creamy and fruity with controlled sweetness.
2. Deanston 12 year old “distillery exclusive” Palo Cortado finish: 55.4% This belting cask was picked up from the Deanston distillery and we were so excited to finally see a Palo Cortado sherry cask whisky, funky and nutty this whisky reads of the wine previously in the cask.
3. Longrow 7 year old Gaja Barolo finish: 55.8% This unusual seven year old Longrow is one of the highly sought after “Wood Expression” series and was matured for five and a half years in refill Bourbon casks and then one and a half further years in fresh Gaja Barolo casks (Barolo is a famous and sought after Italian Red wine produced from the Nebbiolo grape).
